The 809 Shadow Experience

A day inside the work.

Over the years I’ve had many stylists ask if they could spend time inside Extension 809 to observe how our installs, color work, and client experience come together behind the chair.

The 809 Shadow Experience was created for artists who want to refine their craft through observation, conversation, and real salon work.

This is not a classroom and it is not a beginner certification.

It is a day inside the rhythm of the salon. Real clients, real decisions, and the small technical details that create seamless, long lasting extension results.

Who This Is For

The 809 Shadow Experience is designed for stylists who already offer extensions behind the chair and want to deepen their understanding of the work.

This experience is a great fit for artists who:

  • Already understand the basics of beading and stitching
  • Want to improve their blends and overall install results
  • Struggle with row placement, tension, or troubleshooting installs
  • Want to better understand consultation and managing client expectations
  • Want to elevate the experience they provide for their extension clients

This day is best suited for stylists who are serious about refining their craft and learning through real salon experience.

What You'll Observe

Throughout the day you will observe a full extension appointment from consultation through finishing work.

Because every client is different, each shadow day offers a unique opportunity to see how extension work adapts to real hair, real concerns, and real expectations.

Topics commonly discussed during the day include:

  • Consultation approach and setting realistic expectations
  • Listening to clients and understanding their true concerns
  • Row placement and sectioning for comfort and longevity
  • Stitch technique and tension awareness
  • Weft stacking and blend strategy
  • Custom extension color blending
  • Troubleshooting difficult hair types or previous installs
  • Creating seamless transitions between extension and natural hair

A large portion of extension success comes from what happens outside of the install itself. You will also observe how client care and education play a role in long term extension results.

This includes:

  • Teaching clients how to properly care for their extensions
  • Setting realistic maintenance expectations
  • Identifying potential issues before they happen
  • Creating a client experience that builds trust and long term loyalty

These conversations are often the difference between an install that simply looks good and one that truly lasts.

What The Day Looks Like

Each Shadow Experience is approximately 5–6 hours and is designed to give you time observing real extension work along with space for conversation and deeper breakdown afterward.

The day typically includes:

Live Client Service Observation (3–4 Hours)

Spend the majority of the day observing a real extension appointment inside the working salon environment. This typically includes an extension move up paired with color work.

During this time you will observe the full flow of the appointment including consultation, sectioning, installation, blending, and finishing work.

You will also see how client conversations, expectation setting, and real-time decision making shape the final result.

Technique & Process Breakdown (1 Hour)

Following the service, we take time to break down the technical decisions made during the appointment.

This includes conversations around:

  • Row placement and sectioning strategy
  • Stitch technique and tension awareness
  • Weft stacking and blending approach
  • Color choices and extension customization
  • Troubleshooting common extension challenges

This is where many of the small details that elevate extension work become clear.

Open Conversation & Q&A (1 Hour)

The final portion of the day is dedicated to open conversation and questions.

This time is meant to support the realities of working with extensions behind the chair, including topics such as:

  • Consultation structure and setting expectations
  • Listening to clients and identifying their real concerns
  • Client care and extension maintenance education
  • Pricing and positioning extension services
  • Navigating common client situations in the salon

This portion of the day allows space for honest conversation about the things that come up once you're working with real clients in real salon environments.

A Note From BreeAnna

Over the years I have invested a great deal of time, energy, and resources into refining my work behind the chair.

But one thing I’ve learned is that certification is only the beginning.

Once you step back into the salon with real clients, the questions start to look different. Every head of hair is different. Every client has different concerns, expectations, and challenges.

The work becomes less about the method and more about learning how to read the hair, listen to your client, and make thoughtful decisions in the moment.

The Shadow Experience was created to support stylists in that part of the journey.

It’s a space to observe the work, ask honest questions, and gain insight into the small details that help extension services run smoothly behind the chair.

If you are committed to refining your craft and continuing to grow as an artist, I would be honored to share a day of work with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to already offer extensions to shadow?

Yes. The 809 Shadow Experience is designed for stylists who already offer extensions behind the chair and understand the basics of beading and stitching.

This experience focuses on refining your eye, improving installs, troubleshooting real client situations, and elevating your overall extension work.

If you are brand new to extensions, a certification course would be a better starting point before shadowing.

Is this method specific?

No. The Shadow Experience is not centered around a specific extension method.

Instead, the focus is on the decision making that happens behind the chair — consultation, placement strategy, blending, troubleshooting, and client care.

These are the skills that apply across many extension methods and help stylists navigate real client situations with confidence.

Will I be working on a mannequin or client?

The Shadow Experience is primarily observational, allowing you to watch the full process of a real extension appointment from consultation through finishing work.

Hands-on work is not required during the day.

However, if you would like feedback on your own work, you are welcome to bring a mannequin with a row already installed. During the Q&A portion of the day we can review your placement, stitching, tension, and overall approach together.

This can be a helpful opportunity to receive personalized insight on your technique.

Can I ask questions during the appointment?

Yes. Questions are welcome throughout the day.

Some questions may be addressed during the service, while others may be saved for the breakdown and Q&A portion so we can stay focused on the client experience.

Can I take notes, photos, or video during the shadow day?

Yes. You are welcome to take notes, photos, and video throughout the day so you can reference the techniques and conversations later.

Many stylists find it helpful to capture portions of the process for their own learning.

What should I bring with me?

Most stylists simply bring a notebook for notes.

You are also welcome to bring questions or specific situations you have encountered with extension clients that you would like to discuss.

Where does the shadow day take place?

All shadow sessions take place inside Extension 809 in Temecula, California during a real client appointment.

Details for your scheduled day will be provided after booking.

How many stylists attend each shadow day?

Shadow sessions are limited to one stylist per experience.

Keeping the day private allows for open conversation, deeper learning, and a more personalized experience.

How do I book a shadow day?

If you are interested in shadowing, simply click the inquiry button on this page to send an email.

We will respond with available dates and next steps for scheduling.

Can I shadow more than once?

Yes. Some stylists choose to return for additional shadow days as they continue growing their extension services.

Each appointment and client presents different learning opportunities.
