Extension After Care
TREAT IT NICE AND WATCH IT GROW
IT'S HIGH MAINTENANCE TO BE LOW MAINTENANCE
Everyone always wants to know - are extensions hard to take care of? How to properly maintain my extensions?
While at home maintenance is vitally important with extensions, it actually doesn't require a lot of fussing.

WASHING
Just like anything new, washing with extensions can take some time getting used to. My best advice, don't over think it. We like to utilize a double cleanse, which is washing twice with a small amount of shampoo. This will ensure that you are getting the best clean on your scalp and extensions.
Use the pad of your fingers and/or your knuckles to emulsify product around. Nails like to get caught and pull on extensions. Please avoid this. Apply product where your hair feels the dirtiest, making sure that you're getting in the nape of your neck, your crown, and in-between your rows.
When allowing your hair to dry, understand that you have more hair than before and the extensions take longer to dry.Allow extra time from them to dry on their own, under no circumstance going to bed with them wet.

STYLING
It's absolutely essential that you're using a heat protectant any time you are putting heat to your hair.Using heat protectant on dry hair when retouching curls will do wonders protecting your hair from excess heat damage.
When curling, take medium sized sections, start high and quickly run the iron through before setting curls in place to give a more polished finish and long lasting curls. A light hold hairspray, texture spray & dry shampoo will all work together for a long lasting style.
Whenever possible, wear your hair down in a ponytail or loose braids when working out.
When wearing your hair up, make sure that your bun ins high enough that your rows will lay flat against the head or low at the base of the neck. Wearing your bun or ponytail in the middle of your head will cause extra tensions on your rows and can cause slipping and/or damage.
Avoid using any products that contain keratin or ingredients designed to repair. These do not work with extensions. Hydration is your best friend with extensions. Do not froget to keep your extensions hydrated with leave-in conditioner and oil combination.
Avoid sunscreens with avobenzone and benzones. These ingredients in over the counter sunscreens can change the color of your extensions and is often times irreversible and will need to be replaced. Mineral sunscreens and ocean safe sunscreens tend to work well with extensions.
Wearing your hair up and out of the water whenever possible on vacation/during water activities is always best. When going in the pool or ocean, a thorough brush through before adding oil to your ends and securing your hair in braids will keep your extensions from tangling. Be sure to rinse out ocean water or chlorine after getting wet.
SLEEPING
Brush your extensions fully before going to bed.
Place the extensions in twist grade, a low and loose bun/ponytail. This will keep your hair from pulling or tangling while you sleep.
You can't over oil your extensions, and the more hydrated, the longer your extensions will last and the better they feel. Apply a small amount of oil to your dry hair before bed.

BRUSHING
Brushing is your best friend with extensions. Being gentle and effective with brushing will keep your extensions and natural hair healthy for the long haul. Brush out extensions with a wet brush prior to getting in the shower. This helps to prevent deep tangles and matting. If you should have any tangling after the shower, wait until your hair is dry to detangle them.
Split your hair into two, bring it forward over your shoulders , start from the bottom and gently work up, taking extra precaution near the corners and the top wefts on your row.
The front corners of your rows hold them ost weight. Be extra careful to not brush through/over them, even taking a secondary hand and placing it on the top to ensure no tugging happens when brushing through.
Use a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner to extend the life of your hair color and extensions. Gently shampoo between the ros using the pads or knuckles of your fingers. Do not use your nails to scrub. No need for vigorous scrubbing as that mattes up the hair at the root.
Use a leave-in conditioning spray/cream and oil combination right after your shower. Apply more oil before brushing your during the day and/or at night.
When blow drying, wait until hair is 80% dry to start round brushing, always being mindful that you aren't using excess pressure to tug at the hair.
LASTLY
Remember that the nicer you treat your extensions, the better your experience with them will be. I have seen many clients take such great care of the extensions and see their hair lasted much longer than the expected lifespan. On the flipside, I have seen clients neglect at home care and poorly care for the extensions, resulting in premature replacing of the hair and unnecessary damaged caused to both extensions and natural hair.
These extensions are an investment and should be treated as such. Be nice to them and they will be the best investment you ever made in yourself.
